Gujarati Sahitya Mandal was an initiative of Prof. Suren Thakar (fondly known as "Mehul”, his pen name), ably assisted by Prof. Bharat Nayak, both being full-time faculties of this esteemed institution. Both the faculties had observed that the new generation was not sufficiently informed about the richness of Gujarati heritage, language and culture. In order to create interest and impart awareness of our Gujarati heritage, language and culture, they went on to form a Gujarati Sahitya Mandal, four decades ago. The then students of our esteemed institution viz. Amee Trivedi, Deven Bhojani, Jamnadas Majethia actively participated in the activities of Gujarati Sahitya Mandal. In the later decades, Prof. Amee Trivedi and Prof. Piyush Pandya, contributed a lion’s share towards enrichment of the activities of Gujarati Sahitya Mandal, finally handing over its reins to Prof. Sameer Dave and Prof. Heena Bhuva.
With the active support of our SVKM management, respected Principal Sir, Vice-Principal Madam, and goes without saying, the active participation our students, the Gujarati Sahitya Mandal has organized various events, competitions and festivals such as Ramzat (Garba-Gujarati folk dance event), Shabdo-ni-Shatranj, Hasya-ni-Helly, Geet Gunjan, Roshni, Gauravvanta Gujarati… (and the list goes on). The Gujarati Sahitya Mandal also has to its credit a Gujarati bi-annual magazine "Sahitya-Sarita”.
