Umang 2012
Umang is the annual intercollegiate, cultural festival of Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics. Over a period of just 12 years, it has become as integral a part of NM College as sky high cut-offs or compulsory attendance. Umang -2010 Narsee Monjee College of Commerce & Economics has always been synonymous with great academics, intellect, high IQ’s et al but since the past 10 years one word that has been making waves and has become an inseparable part of this college is Umang. Not only has it touched the lives of every student in NM but also those of students all over India, an event marked in the calendars of many and awaited eagerly. The brain child of NMites, Umang was conceived in 2000. Little known then, Umang has now grown and come to be known as Asia’s fastest growing festival in just a span of 10 years. The festival currently in its 11th year has seen over 100 colleges participating with a footfall of over 40,000 annually. The festival which caters to all kinds of talent all over India organizes an array of events every year based on performing arts, literature, management, fine arts, workshops, gaming etc. Umang has over years seen celebrities like Shabana Azmi, Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Arjun Rampal, Sivamani,Dilip Chhabria, Isha Koppikarr, Luke Kenny, John Abraham, Javed Akthar, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and many moo-re. It has also witnessed performances of various artists like Kailash Kher, Indian Ocean, Parikrama, Lucky Ali, Shaan, Euphoria and others like Prime Circle, South Africa’s best rock band. With a motto like ‘Reach for Moo-re…’ and ‘Uma’ the mascot jumping over the moon, Umangites work endlessly, striving each year to out-do none other than themselves bringing creative new ideas and events for collegians truly living up to the name Umang has made for itself over such a short span of time. During the weeks preceding the festival you will find room no. 6 (The Umang headquarters) abuzz with Umangites scurrying to meet deadlines and to get the job done as well balancing their academics but all in all an experience which is nothing but rewarding. Umang is currently in its 11th year with a new theme ‘The Ancient Resonance’ a reminiscence of the ancient world at its most pristine time. With a host of new events and surprises lined up, Umang is an event you wouldn’t want to miss for anything in the world.
