LAW WORKSHOP
The One day workshop Titled “One Day Workshop in Business Law, to discuss SY B.Com Syllabus and inclusion of Companies Act 2013 in SY B.Com syllabus” was organized by department of Business Law on Thursday 5th February 2015 at NM computer Lab in its Golden Jubilee Year.
The aims & objectives of the Workshop were, to discuss the new syllabus of SY B.Com Business law, the methodology and current changes and Amendments in Business laws.
The one day Workshop consisted of four Technical sessions including Panel discussion on the current issues. Dr. Ajay Bhamare, Chairman of Board of Studies, Mumbai University was invited as Guest of Honour and Mr. S.R. Sinha, Associate Professor Sathye College was invited as Key Note speaker. Advocates, Chartered Accountants, Company secretaries and Professors were invited as Resource Persons. A special session on Research in Law was conducted by Dr. Diwedi Pricipal Pravin Gandhi Law college for the participants. Forty faculty members teaching Business Law across Mumbai participated in the work shop.
Participants had enriching experience through discussions and interactive sessions conducted by the resource persons from the industry. They departed with syllabus related material provided by the organizers and with the pleasant memories about the hospitality of the organizers.
Mrs. Deepa Chitnis(Convener), Dr.Vijayshree Anand, Dr.Mukta Manoj, Ms. Anupama Jawale and Ms.Vaishali Dawar were part of the organizing committee. Mr. Vijay peon and Accounts department also gave their assistance for the successful organization of the workshop.

Prof. Ritika Khurana pPublished a research paper entitled “ Education of women in India: Gender Issues and Challenges” in the International Journal of Research in Social Sciences (IJRSS) – a Quarterly journal of Multidisciplinary Research Academy, Vol 5, Issue 2 (ISSN No: 2249-2496) with an impact factor of 5.650 in 2014.

H.S.C. regular Examination held in March 2010 : Ms. KOTHARI DARSHINI UDAYAN NEETA was awarded the Late Usha Laxman Kuvalekar prize for securing the highest marks in Economics amongst all the students from Commerce Stream. REFRESHER COURSE IN COMMERCE “CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN BUSINESS”
We have successfully conducted the UGC-Academic Staff College sponsored Refresher course at our College from 14-02-2011 to 05-03-2011. This was the 8th Refresher Course organised by N M College.
Forty Two Senior Professor from various colleges affiliated to the Universities of Mumbai and SNDT Benefited from the Course. All of them successfully completed the Course. All the three staff from our college who attended the course were placed in “A” grade. 26 of teacher were placed in `A` Grade and the remaining is `B’ Grade. None were in C, D or F Grade.
The course was inaugurated by Hon. Vice Chancellor Shri Rajan Velurkar, and Former Vice Chancellor Dr. Snehalata Deshmukh was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory Function. Dr. Shanti, Director Academic Staff College, University of Mumbai was also present for both the function.
The Resource Person included Dr. Sathyapal Singh, Addl. D.G.P., Shri Shalin S Divatia and other leading Industries, Academic Director of Institutes of Mngt., Principals and a Director of I.I.M. A. Field visit to TISS was also organized to sensitise the teacher participants on social issues and learn on institution building.
The Course was well appreciated by all the participants. Three Professors of our college also successfully completed the Course with grade “A”. Prof. B.K. Nair Co-ordinated the Course and done a wonderful job which was appreciated by all the participants.
FAREWELL TO THE STUDENTS OF T.Y.B.Com. & T.Y.B.M.S. CLASS.
The Students’ forum organized a farewell party for the T.Y.B.Com students on the 26th February 2011. 780 students registered for the same.
Principal and the Vice Principal addressed the students and wished them for their examinations.
The SVKM Parivar organized the YUVA festival on the 25th February 2011. Our students participated in dramatics and were awarded the Best Actor Award.
New Courses started from the academic year 2010-2011.
For the Academic year 2010-2011, University of Mumbai and Gvernment of Maharashtra had accepted and granted permission to start FOUR new courses 3 at the undergraduate Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance), Bachelor of Commerce (Banking & Insurance) and Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Markets) and one Post Graudate Course Master in Commerce (Advance Accountancy).
However, we have offered only two courses viz. Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance): Currently we have 60 students enrolled for this course and M.Com. (Advance Accountancy): 57 students have enrolled for the program.

On 21st December 2010 “College Day” was organized. It was a platform through which students were awarded for their excellence in performance. This was followed by an entertainment programme in which the artistic skills of the students were showcased.

On the 16th December 2010 the non-teaching staff organized “Satyanarayan Pooja”.
INTERCOLLEGIATE FESTIVALS:
MALHAR: College students participated in Malhar 2010, the Inter Collegiate Festival organised by St. Xavier’s College Mumbai. Overall we secured the 4th position. Our students won the Second Prize in Fusion Dance, Classical Dance, Picture Perfect and Burst into Fame events and third prize in Hindi Street Play. (Held from 15.08.2010 to 21.08.2010)
LAKSHYA: Students of the BMS Section participated in the intercollegiate festival “Lakshya” organised by MMK College from 7th August 2010 to 10th August 2010 and secured the IIIrd Prize.
O2: Our college won the first position at “O2” – Bhavans College.
KSHITIJ: Intercollegiate Festival of Mithibai College, N. M. College bagged the third position.
TARANGAN: Our students won the first prize for Mock Stock event and in Volley ball. They also won second prize at the quiz competition at “Tarangan” held at Thakur College.
MAUJ 2010: Our students won the first position at the Su-do-ku competition and second position in the Solo singing competition at “Mauj 2010” held at Saraf Girls’ College.
MOOD-i N. M. College won the first prize at “Mood – I” in Debating held at IIT Powai.
SPRINGZ: Students participated in SPRINGZ organized by Nagindas Khandwala College from the 6th to 8th January 2011. Bhavi Turkhia & Rishab Chanda won the Mr. & Ms. SPRINGZ title. Jainam Vora won first prize for R. J. hunt. Bhavi Turkhia & Dhiram Kotadia won first prize for the War of C L. Harsh Kothari bagged the second prize in Mono acting and Akiff, Jainam, Nikhil, Sitesh, Ruta, Purva & Dhiram bagged the second prize for street play.
AAHAN: Students participated in AAHAN, organized by Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Management between 11th to 13th of January 2011. They bagged a number of prizes, like Vat Se Vyapari, Actor Hunt, Khel Bhel aur Mel, Mechanikhel, Track Tamasha etc. Our college also won the Champions Trophy for the Corporate Event.
TSUNAMI: Students of theBMS section participated and won the 3rd position at the Intercollegiate event “TSUNAMI” organised by the students of Lala Lajpatrai College. The festival was organised from 3rd to 12th September 2010.
MAYHEM: An overwhelming number of Junior college students participated in “Mayhem” conducted by NMIMS, in which the college was awarded a trophy for winning the second overall position.
CULTURAL SOCIETY: TALENT HUNT: A Talent Hunt competition was organised by the Cultural Committee of N M College which included events like Theatre, Literary , Dance , Fine Arts and Music. The basic idea is to identify students for these events and form teams for participation in collegiate and inter-collegiate events.
The Cultural Society conducted various cultural activities from 15th, 16th & 22nd December 2010. The events held were dance, music & theatre.
YOUTH FESTIVAL: The Department of Student’s Welfare, University of Mumbai organises an Inter Collegiate Event “Youth Festival” for all the colleges affiliated to University of Mumbai. Our students won the Ist prize in Hindi Skit, 3rd prize in Indian Light Vocal, Western Solo and Western Group Song. Our students also bagged the consolation prize in On the Spot Painting and Mime. Mr. Anuj Sharma won the prize for the Best Actor and Ms. Aarti Ail won the prize as the 2nd Best Actress. Overall N. M. College secured the ____ position in the Youth Festival.
UMANG: is an inter collegiate event organised by the students of N M College from 19th August 2010 to 22nd August 2010. This year Umang witnessed participation from 105 colleges and 7500 participants. N M College won the 1st Runners up award and also won the trophies in Gaming and Management Fest. Our students secured the 1st Prize in Dramatics, Folk Dance, Street Dance, Junk Instruments, Filmy Duets, Singing, Gaming, Management Maestro, Gujarati Story Telling, ash Flow , Sufi Singing, Classical Instruments, Quiz, Fashion Designing, Blending of Scripts, Mr. and Ms. Umang etc.
DRISHTI:
- Drishti – The BMS festival was conducted successfully from 12th to 16th February, 2011.
MEETING WITH Mr.DEEPAK PARIKH: Five students from the BMS Section met Mr. Deepak Parikh, Chairman HDFC in his chamber with the help of an organisation FLY.
N.S.S.: Orientation programme was conducted on 06.08.2010. A rally was organised on the occasion of August Kranti Day. Rakhi and Flag manufactured by Special Children were sold and the fund collected were handed over to these agencies. The NSS Unit collected 205 bottles of blood and also organised a Thalassaemia Detection Camp for the students and other donors. A medical camp and Seminar on Prevention of Aids, Thalassaemia, District Level Workshop on Protection of Consumer Rights , News paper Collection Drive were also organised by the NSS Unit of the College.
We conducted a residential camp in Usgaon Dongri, Virar (E) for 7 days from 15th December 2010 to 21st December 2010. Camp themes were: “Environmental Awareness including preservation of natural resources and conservation of cultural/historical heritage.” and Health, Public sanitation & Personal hygiene.
PSYCHOLOGY CLUB : PSYCHEDELIA: The Psychology Club of N M College organised its 1st workshop from 15th to 7th September 2010.
MARATHI SAHITYA MANDAL: Marathi Sahatiya Mandal of the college organised its 1st Program. Mrs. Kavita Hemant Karkare was the chief guest. Mrs. Karkare spoke about her husband the late Hemant Karkare. The Programme was followed by songs invoking patriotism amongst the students present.
ROTARACT CLUB: Rotaract Club conducted several events during the month os September like Food Donation Drive, Beach Cleaning Drive, Screening Movies for children from orphanages, Dental Check Up, Trip to National Park for children belonging to Vivekanand Youth Forum, Newspaper Collection Drive etc. Two of the Rotaractors visit Vivekanand Youth Forum every Thursday to teach the students.
The Rotaract Club of N M College celebrated the Rotofest 2010 throughout the month of December 2010. The conducted number of activities like Le tour de France, N M Youth Icon, The Amazing Race,Youth Night, Speak Up Competition, Just Imagine Competition, Shipwreck, Patriot – Know India,”WE CARE” Run, Makar Sankranti Celebrations “UDAAN” etc.
RCNM won several citations : JOY FEST Citation, World Responsible Youth Week, RYPEN and is nominated for the following projects Synergy, Se7en, RCNM Census Department, Football Fiesta, 26/11 Peace Out, Friendship Management Workshop “Men are form Mars, Women are from Venus”.
RCNM also launched its annual bulletin “Cheers”.
COMPUTER SOCIETY: The Computer Society of NM Junior College organised two events “TECHNOBASH” and “INFOGAGE” from 7th to 10th September 2010.
The Computer Society organized “Infogage 10” on the 9th & 10th December 2010. Prof. Sangeeta Kher, Vice-Principal, inaugurated their yearly newsletter “BiTz”. The two days event included a number of activities like math’s quiz, I.T. Lab, Treasure Hunt, Graphology Workshop and many more.
Computer Society organized a two days workshop on “Making I. T. Happen……” on 10th & 11th January 2011 in which they conducted activities like Treasure Hunt, Computer Quiz, SMS Bee etc.
HOBBY CENTRE: Hobby Centre of NM Junior College organised a set of event like “Pop it, Lock It, Tute it”, “Sole a Soul“, “Text a thon” and “A La Mode” from 14th to 16th September 2010.

WILD LIFE & NATURE CLUB: Organised its activities for the year 2010-201 with a Tree Plantation Drive at I Y College by planting 50 saplings.
Wildlife and Nature Club organized a one day trek to Kondeshwar dam at Badlapur on the outskirts of Mumbai on 12th of December 2010 under the guidance of Mr. Pankaj Jani of Trekkers Holiday India.
DRAMATICS TEAM: Mihir Rajda Secured the IInd position for Best Script. Balraj Sahani Trophy for Best Overall Performance was secured by Anuj Sharma and Merit for Finals was secured by Varad Badve at the IPTA Festival.
Our Drama Team secured the IInd Prize at the INT for the Hindi Play.
THE ECONOMIC ASSOCIATION : The Economics Associatiion of N M Junior College organised a series of activities consisting of lectures and games like “ Commodity Markets with insurance”, “Arthashastra (a business game)” , Model United Nations, Quiz, Business Models and Planning” on 17th & 18th September 2010.

The Economics Association conducted the elimination round of the A. D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition on behalf of the forum of Free Enterprise on 3rd December 2010. Prof. Sathesh Menon, Vice-Principal, Valia College and Prof. Sonali Chatterjee, Dept. of Economics, Mithibai College were the judges for the event.
PLANNING FORUM: The Planning Forum of N M Junior College organised its festival consisting of Games and Lectures like “Brain Coaster”, “Richie Rich” “Ad Mad Stock Exchange” etc. from 21st to 24th September 2010.
DEBATING & LITERARY SOCIETY: The Debating & Literary Society of N M Junior college organised its event “AVANT-GARDE” on 29th September 2010.
GUJARATI SAHITYA MANDAL: of NM Junior College conducted Elocution Competition on 4th October 2010.
Participants were Mr. Hiten Anadpara and Mr. Mukesh Joshi. Mr. Subhash Thakar was invited for stand up comedy.
On the 16th December 2010 the Gujarati Sahitya Mandal organized “Garba” in which all the professors and the large number of students danced to the authentic Gujarati tunes.
The Gujarati Sahitya Mandal organized Gujarati-Drama-Competition and Gujarati-Sugam-Sangeet Competition in the college on 20.12.2010.
MCVC Section : The students of Travel & Tourism won the 1st Prize at the Dance Competition organised by International Tourism Council.
PLANNING FORUM:Organised a visit to “National Stock Exchange” on 14th July 2010.
The Planning Forum organized “Narsee Monjee Stock Exchange” competition in which students were divided into teams and given scrips of listed companies and Rs. 1 Crore to invest.

- On 3rd February 2011, under an initiative taken by Prof. Nitin Sawant, the Students’ Forum organized a programme with the theme of positive thinking as also for the purpose of general counseling of students. Devotees of ISCKON lectured and counseled the students.

ATHLETICS: HEMANT NAGADA of FYJC and MOHIT KABARE of FYJC secured 1st and 2nd at the Inter Collegiate DSO District and DSO Divisional Level 110 mtrs. Hurdles Meet.
Priyanka Mendon of SYBMS won the 4th Position in Hammer Throw at the Inter Collegiate Athletic Meet organised by the University of Mumbai
Hemant Nagada & Mohit Kabare stood 4th & 5th at DSO State Level in 110mtrs. Hurdles Tournament, held at Pune.
BADMINTON: The Girls team won the DSO Level Championship and qualified for the DSO Division Level Tournament and were Runners Up. TANVI LAD – captain of our team was selected for the Side Selection at DSO State Level and qualified for the DSO National level Camp.
The Boys Team reached the finals of the DSO District Level Tournament and were Runners Up<
Ms. Apeksha Girap won the Bronze medal at the Inter Collegiate Badminton Competition Organised by University of Mumbai.
TANVI LAD: is ranked 3rd at the National Level. Tanvi has secured the 2nd Place at The All India Junior Major ranking Competition held at Chandigarh, at 9th All India Jr Ranking Bangalore and at All India Junior Championship Pune. Tanvi has secured the 3rd Rank at 10th RSC All India Ranking Tournament Kochi and at All India Major Ranking Nellore. Tanvi has also represented India at the Tangkas ALFMART Junior Challenge Open badminton Chapionship 2010 held in June 2010 at Jakarta Indonasia and has also represented India at the Junior Asian Badminton Championship held in May 2010 at Malaysia.
CHESS: From our Boys team Aditya Udeshi, Shivram Rege and Raj Mehta won the 1st, 3rd and the 5th Place and the members of our Girls team Ms. Manasvi Wadhwa & Ruchi Pincha won the 2nd and 3rd position at DSO Taluka Level Championship.
Aditya Udhesi has won the State and National Level Championship. Aditya has completed 3 IM norms i.e. Titles of International Master. He has reached world Chess ELO ratings 2363. He has won the District Level, Division Level and State Level Individual Gold Medals. Aditya has also won the Gold Medal in the individual event at the DSO School Games Federation of India DSO.
Shilpi Jain of FYBCOM class won the Gold Medal in Girls Individual Event and Meghana Luthra of the TYBCom Class secured the 5th position at the Inter Collegiate event organised by University of Mumbai.
CRICKET : Boys team participated in the Quarter Finals of the DSO District Level Competition.

JUDO : Rojith John & Jai Thakker received the Bronze Medal at the Inter-collegiate Judo competition held at Marine Lines

LAWN TENNIS: Nikunj Mehta of SYJC , Parth Shah and Tapsya Pande of the FYJC Class secured the 2nd , 3rd and 4th position at the DSO District Level Competition and qualified for the DSO Divisional Level.
Sanjeet Dhuri of FYBCom class secured the the 7th Position in the individual event and our double team of Sanjeet Dhuri and Rushab Kotak secured the 5th position at the Inter Collegiate Competition organised by University of Mumbai.
Parth Shah participated at the DSO State Level Lawn Tennis Tournament at won the 5th Prize.
NET BALL: Boys team were the runners up at the DSO District Level Competition.
Netball – Jr. Boys v/s Mithibai lost in Final.
SKATING: Nidhi Singhania of the FYJC Class has won 1 gold and 2 silver medals at the RSFI District Level, 1 Gold and 2 Silver at the State Level and 2 Silver at the Inter Collegiate DSO Divisional Level Competitions. Nidhi has qualified for the DSO State Level Competitions to be held in Dec. 2010 at Pune.
Rushabh Gada of SYJC won 1 gold and 2 silver medals at the DSO Division Level Championship and has qualified for the DSO State Level Competitions to be held in Dec. 2010 at Pune.
Nidhi Singhania participated at the DSO National Level Competition for Roller Skating held at Delhi.
SQUASH: Ankita Sharma of the SYJC Class was the Runners Up at the Junior / Sub Junior National Championship 2010 held at Chennai, Runnes up at the Junior Open Championship 2010 held at Pune and has secured the 3rd Position at the Otters Junior.
Yogini Savla received a Silver Medal & Trophy at Inter-collegiate Squash competition held at Marine Lines.
TABLE TENNIS: The Boys and the Girls Team were theRunners Up at the DSO District Level Tournament.
Our Boys team won the Silver Medal at the Inter Collegiate Competition organised by University of Mumbai.
Sukhada Kulkarni won the Individual Title at the Inter Collegiate Competition organised by University of Mumbai.
Dheeraj Rai has on the Gold ad Silver Medal in Open State Level Competition and is also selected as the member of the Maharashtra Team to play at the National Championship.
THROWBALL: The Boys and the Girls team were runners up at the DSO District Level Tournament. Ms. Aakriti Arora represented Maharashtra State at the Nationals.

VOLLEYBALL: The boys team won the Runners Up position at the DSO Taluka level tournament and qualified for the District level DSO tournament.

- Mrs. Mona Thakkar Pandya was awarded the M.Phil. Degree.
- Mrs. Anupama Chavan presented a research paper titled “Analyzing the feasibility of Green marketing in Medium and Small Scale Manufacturers” on Oct. 2, 2010 at the All India Commerce Conference organised by Department of Commerce, University of Goa.
- Mrs.Vijayshree Anand, Mrs. Nirmala Chavan, Mrs. Vaishali Dawar and Dr. Ritika Khurana participated in the research event “Manshodhan” organised by Mithibai College and presented research papers. Mrs. Vijayshree Anand secured the IIIrd Prize for her paper “Women, Malls and Kirana Stores”.
- Mrs. Anupama Chavan published her research paper “Analyzing the feasibility of Green marketing in Medium and Small Scale Manufacturers” in an international journal “the Asia Pacific Journal of Research in Business Management” .
- Dr. Swati Chaplot was awarded the Ph.D. Degree.
- Prof. Manjiree Gondhalekar, Department of Mathematics & Statistics and Computers addressed the students of Mulund College of Commerce & Economics and Vivek College of Commerce on “E-commerce & Computer Systems and Applications.”
- Prof. Radhika Wadke, Dr. Ritika Khurana participated in National Seminar on “Indian Economic Reforms: Evaluation, Diagnosis and Forecast”, Organised by Model College, Dombivali on 26th February 2011. They submitted a joint paper title “Are we creating graveyards in the minds of the farmers: An Economic & Psychological perspective”.
- Dr. Mrs. Ritu Vashisht presented a paper titled “ The changing role of RBI in Financal Fiscal Deficit” at a two day National Conference organised by Adarsh Colege of Arts & Commerce Badlapur Thane on “75 years of Reserve Bank of India : Prospects and Retrospects” on 20th & 21st January 2011.
- Dr. Ritu Vashisht participated in two days National Seminar on 20th & 21st January 2011, on “75 yrs. Of Reserve Bank of India: Prospects & Retrospect” organized by Dept. of Commerce & Economics at Adarsh College of Arts & Commerce. She presented a paper on “The Changing Role of the Reserve Bank of India in Financing Fiscal Deficit.” She also participated in two days International conference on “Contemporary issues in Higher Education” organized by Nagindas Khandwala College on 28th & 29th January 2011. She presented a paper titled “Economics of Higher Education; Micro Analysis of B-Schools in Mumbai.”
- Dr. Mrs. Ritu Vashisht presented a paper at “INCOSHE – 2011” an International Conference organised by Nagindas Khandwala College on “Contemporary Scenario in Higher Education: Employability, Values, Opportunities and Challenges” on 28th 29th January 2011.
- Dr. Mrs. Ritu Vashisht presented a paper titled “Challenges and Stratergies for Indian Banking Sector for International Competitiveness” at an International Conference organised by Department of Commerce, University of Mumbai on “Emerging Issues in Global Economy, Commerce and Management: Challenges and Strategies for Internation Competitiveness” on 1st and 2nd February 2011.
- Dr. Mrs. Ritu Vashisht presented a paper titled “Micro Finance with special reference to Self Help Group’s and Bank Linkages” at a National Conference organised by Pragati College of Arts & Commerce, Dombivli, Thane 421201 on “Micro Finance – A Road Ahead” on 22nd February 2011.
- Dr. Ritu Vashisht participated in a orkshop on “Innovative Techniques in Commerce Teaching” organised by Mithibai College on 11th February 2011.
- Prof. Deepa Chitnis has presented a research paper on “E-contracts Risk Mitigations” at International conference held at St. Francis Institute of Management on 5th February 2011.
- Prof. Sangita Kher, Prof. Amee Vora and Prof. Vijayshree Anand are attending the UGC Sponsored Refresher Course, on “Contemporary Issues in Business” being conducted in our college on behalf of The Academic Staff College of the University of Mumbai from 14th February, 2011 to 5th March 2011.
